Tell Us Your Story
Shouldn’t everyone be able to feel comfortable in their own skin? Shouldn’t everyone be able to tell their story and be accepted and supported, just the way they are? That is our goal.
Sometimes there are things that identify us, like our age, gender, sexuality, skin color, how we look, where we come from, or how much money we have. And even though those things might be totally beyond our control, they often still affect how we feel about ourselves and how others treat us. Sometimes we feel like misfits in our society, or even in our own homes, because we feel different or someone tells us that we are not good enough.
That is just so freakin wrong in every way! But the big question is how do we change it? We all know that our differences need to be celebrated, embraced and supported, rather than criticized. We know there will always be some people around us who do not like us, because they have their own insecurities. Sticks and stones, and all that. But how do we “feel” it and really believe it? How do we learn to walk our own path with our heads held high and our freak flags flying proudly?
We believe the answer lies in community. They say sunlight is the best disinfectant. You know how talking to a friend always makes you feel better? Sharing our stories is the best way to overcome the shame and indignities that hold us back way too often. And that takes a lot of courage.
It takes courage to share and question things we have been told our whole lives!
Like, do we still believe in beauty standards? Why do we even have BEAUTY standards? Who decided that? Why do we spend so much time thinking what is wrong with us instead of living our lives the way we want to live?
We chose to stop thinking about everything we are not, and instead enjoy who we are. That’s why we decided to start this project “Baby It’s My Story”. Let’s share our stories. Lets bring our society together and create the kind of environment where everyone feels like they belong. Lets stay weird together and keep going.
